Review of Fujifilm 35mm f2 Lens

Fujifilm 35mm f2 Lens

For these gear reviews ill be using the same framework reviewing them on Build quality, Image quality, Value and Overall rating.

Build Quality

As with all the f2 Fujifilm lenses the build quality is fantastic. A well dampened aperture ring and all metal body make it feel absolutely solid. It also one of the most compact lenses in the fujifilm lineup excluding the pancake 18mm & 27mm f2.8 lenses. I have used this pretty much everyday and its starting to show some wear on the aperture ring. (9/10)

Image quality

I am not the biggest on pixel peeping on photoshop and have not tested this on the newer 40mp sensors but for me this lens has performed excellently for the conditions I use it in. for the times i have used it in low light I have found me wanting more light to come into the camera. Saying this as for all other situations its been great and perfectly sharp from f4 to f10. ill give the image quality (8/10)

Usability

The overall ergonomics of this lens is why I will probably never sell this. I basically keep this attached to my Fuji X-E4 to make a super compact street set up. I would consider only swapping this for the 27mm as I transition into a wider focal range. The 35mm (50mm) focal range is super useful as an every day lens and is more than capable for 90% of the situations I’ve faced. (9/10)

Value

This is why the 35mm is a must buy. I originally purchased my lens for £250 second hand from CEX and for the price the shortfalls of the lens are almost excused. The price is comparable to a third party lens such as the viltrox 33mm f1.4 but is better in almost every way. The only other comparison would be the old f1,4 35mm. Although this is a great lens with lots of character this OG lens is still more expensive than the f2. For the value I give solid 10/10.

Overall rating

In summary i would recommend the 35mm f2 to almost everyone. It’s small enough to throw in a pocket, weather resistant and great quality. It makes a discrete set up when paired with smaller cameras.

Overall I would give this a 9/10.
